Monetize the Mic

On today’s episode of Rock the Podcast, Jess and Margy speak with serial entrepreneur and accomplished podcaster Melinda Wittstock. Melinda hosts the popular show “Wings of Inspired Business,” and is the creator of Podopolo™, a new and exciting podcasting network. Podopolo™ is all about empowering content creators to profit from their podcasts, and engaging their audiences to make a positive difference in the world – all while having fun, connecting with friends, and winning prizes.

You’ll hear about how Melinda started her entrepreneurial journey as a child, resulting in her grandmother prophetically referring to her as “disruptive.” Melinda talks to Jess and Margy about creating the first ever socially interactive and gamified podcasting network, and the three main problems that Podopolo™ aims to solve for podcasters.

The question on everyone’s mind is, “How can I monetize podcasting?” Melinda explains that while 85% of podcasters don’t make any money from podcasting, Podopolo™ helps smaller shows with a niche and hyper-engaged audience start to see revenue from podcasting. You’ll also hear what Melinda has done on her own podcast to create mini-businesses and streams of revenue. Listen to the end to hear Melinda give Jess and Margy her two big predictions for the future of podcasting!

You can find Podopolo™ in your app store or on the Podopolo™ website!

Jess and Margy are the co owners of Interview Connections, the first and leading podcast booking agency. This is the podcast where you will learn all about podcast guesting and how to leverage podcast interviews to grow your brand awareness.

On this episode of Rock the Podcast, Jess and Margy discuss how you actually turn your podcast interviews into revenue. This starts with getting clear about your call to action. Where are you sending the listeners? It can be as simple as a website, an email, or a social media group. Wherever you send your listeners to, it’s crucial that you have a structure, a system, and a staff in place to nurture your leads.

Jess and Margy share what has been working for them. They direct listeners to a free facebook group, and once a listener joins facebook group, a community manager is assigned to them. Those community managers take care of the leads by making sure their questions are answered, keeping them engaged, and registering them for events. Whatever you use for your CTA, it’s imperative that you have a system for those leads to be nurtured!

On this episode of Rock the Podcast, Jess and Margy talk about everything you can do to ensure that you are a memorable podcast guest. The most important way to guarantee that you’ll stay in the mind of a listener is to share stories.

Don’t be afraid to share details and to dive deep, you want the listener to be there with you, and you want to take them into that moment. Not every interview is going to be 100% about your business. There will probably be questions about your background, how you started business, etc. You need to be prepared with stories about your pivotal moments and how you got to where you are.

Jess and Margy share some storytelling tips for podcasting, including positioning your suggested questions as ones that you can answer with stories. Jess and Margy also recommend writing your stories out, so that you can start to get to know them better, understand them better, and become practiced and skilled at telling your stories. Margy also shares a bonus tip used by Interview Connections clients to become excellent storytellers on podcasts.

On this episode of Rock the Podcast, Jess and Margy discuss the bright future of podcasting. When Jess started booking people on podcasts in 2013, barely anyone was using this strategy. In the last 7 years, podcasting has grown exponentially, with over 51% of the population reported as podcast listeners. There are over one million valid podcasts on Apple, and that number is still climbing.

Unlike traditional media, podcasting has a very low barrier to entry. It has never been easier to start your own podcast, or begin guesting on other podcasts. Big companies and big investors are taking notice of the power of podcasting, as seen in the recent deals between Spotify, Joe Rogan, and Gimlet media.

In this episode, Jess and Margy share their predictions for the future of podcasting, including more ways to monetize podcasts, growth in advertisement revenue, and an overall increase in quality in podcasting.
